Why vertical-specific editing beats a generic template
A dental practice and a private equity firm both want more qualified inbound, but almost nothing about their footage, their compliance exposure, or their buyer's decision path is the same. The dentist is selling a local, high-anxiety purchase where the deciding factor is whether the viewer trusts the person holding the drill. The PE firm is selling to a tiny audience of allocators and founders who will watch a fourteen-minute interview at 1.5x and judge you on one sentence about how you treat management teams. Applying the same caption preset and the same three-second jump cut to both is how agencies produce content that technically posts and never converts.
Every industry page in this hub starts from the same three questions: who is actually watching, what would make them distrust you, and what raw material do you already have sitting on a hard drive. From there we set a format profile, a cut density, a caption treatment, and a compliance checklist that is specific to that vertical. That is the difference between video that fills a content calendar and video that fills a pipeline.
What is inside every industry page
Each page documents a benchmark slice for that vertical: median hook retention, typical three-second drop-off, average watch time, the hook type that performs best, and the cut density we edit to. Those numbers come from short-form campaigns our team has produced, and they are aggregate ranges rather than promises. They exist so you can sanity-check the numbers your current editor or agency is reporting.
You also get a format profile (dominant shot type, shot length, B-roll ratio, pacing and audio notes), the technical delivery spec we ship against, a buyer context block covering typical budget and the objection that usually stalls the deal, a compliance section where the vertical is regulated, and a worked example of how the edit changes when the goal changes. Related industries and the platform pages that pair with them are linked at the bottom so you can move sideways instead of bouncing.
Regulated industries need an editor who reads the rules
Roughly a third of the verticals we work in carry real legal exposure in the edit itself. Law firms operate under state bar advertising rules that govern testimonials, results claims, and required disclaimers. Healthcare and dental need documented patient consent before a face or a chart appears on screen. Financial advisors work under SEC and FINRA rules that make an unqualified performance claim or an unpaid endorsement a compliance incident, not a marketing choice. Insurance content triggers state licensing disclosures. Content aimed at students can pull in FERPA and minor-consent questions.
We do not give legal advice, and we always route final approval back to your compliance contact. What we do is build the disclaimer, the consent log, the caption language, and the on-screen text into the edit template so the compliant version is the default version rather than a revision round. In practice this is the single biggest reason regulated clients stop and restart their content program: the first agency shipped something that had to be pulled.
How to use this hub
Start with your own vertical, read the format profile, and compare it to what you are publishing now. If the gap is pacing or captions, the guides hub has the working references. If the gap is volume, the content volume planner will tell you how many source recordings you need per month to hit a target output. If the gap is budget, the cost pages break down what shorts, podcast clips, YouTube episodes, and UGC ads actually cost across freelance, in-house, and agency models.
If your industry is not listed, the closest adjacent page is usually accurate enough to plan from. Consulting maps well onto professional services, healthcare tech onto B2B software, and most local service businesses onto the dental or restaurant profiles. Send us a brief either way and we will tell you honestly whether we have edited in your space before.
Common questions
- Do you only work with the industries listed here?
- No. These are the verticals we have enough production history in to publish benchmark data for. We take on adjacent industries regularly and will say up front when a category is new to us so you can weigh that before committing.
- How much does the edit actually change between industries?
- Substantially. Cut density, caption density, B-roll ratio, hook structure, disclaimer handling, and length targets all move. A dental short runs slower with more face time and a clear local call to action, while a DTC ad runs faster with product-in-hand within the first second.
- Can you handle our compliance review process?
- Yes. We build disclaimers, required on-screen text, and consent tracking into the edit template, deliver a review version with timestamps, and hold publishing until your compliance contact signs off. We do not provide legal advice.
- What if we have no existing footage?
- Most clients start with a remote recording setup we spec for them: one camera, one lav or USB mic, and a two-hour monthly session that yields enough raw material for fifteen to thirty shorts plus a long-form piece.
